Russell Slade: Looking to the positives

County, with three losses in a row coming into the clash against Slade's in-form side, appeared to be up against it.

But Derry's troops more than matched the promotion-chasers with Nathan Tyson and Jamal Campbell-Ryce both coming closest to breaking the deadlock.

Slade could find few reasons for complaint against a robust County side.

"It was a horrible surface for both teams so there were no excuses there," Slade said.

"We kept a clean sheet and in the second half we put Notts under quite a bit of pressure.

"We probably should have got ourselves a goal from a very good spell of possession we had during that time.

"If there was not a good time to come to Notts County, then it was probably Saturday.

"They were beaten 6-0 last week and there had to be a response and it was a fantastic response.

"They gave everything and when we put them under pressure they hung on stoutly at the back.

"In Chris Dagnall we had the best chance of the game in the first half other than the Nathan Tyson one in the first minute.

"There are plenty of positives we can take from this.

"We haven't lost again, we hung in there during the first half then tipped the momentum our way.

"If we could have just nicked a goal then it would have been a fantastic result."

he uber commercialisation of the 90s has led to the point where this overly familar, try hard, jolly hockey sticks type fronts up a major football match on a weekly basis. Unlike the great presenters of yesteryear, I doubt he would even recognise the scent of Brut.
