Vine excited by Malmo test

Hibernian play Malmo in the second qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday and Rowan Vine is relishing his first taste of life on the continental stage.

The Swedes are already 16 games into their season and sit atop of the Swedish league but the former St Johnstone striker cannot wait to pit his wits against the 1979 European Cup finalists.

"It's unfortunate that these games come so early for the Scottish and English teams seeing as it is in our pre-season," he told Sky Sports News.

"But if clubs know that they are going to be involved in these games, then it is all they are looking forward to during the summer.

"They are already deep into their season that's going to be the stand-out thing. We are going to need to be patient. They are probably going to keep the ball a lot with their quality, especially over there."

The Easter Road faithful were disapppointed to see the back of Leigh Griffiths this summer, but Vine insists he is a very different player from the man who bagged 28 goals for Hibs last season.

"I'm a completely different player really," he added. "I like to be involved in a lot of the build-up play and the onus has never been on me in my career to be a goalscorer in itself.

"Obviously I believe I can score goals, and I have scored goals before."
