Owen Coyle: Wigan manager does not expect abuse against Rubin Kazan

The Latics take on Russian outfit Rubin just two weeks after Manchester City complained of abuse towards Yaya Toure in their UEFA Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow.

The incident resulted in UEFA closing a section of CSKA's ground and warning them as to their future conduct, but the Wigan manager is hopeful there will be no issues when the two sides meet.

Coyle - whose side drew 1-1 with Rubin at the DW Stadium in their last European outing - said: "I understand there is always going to be a general point about this.

"But in the home game against Rubin, there was a fantastic atmosphere. The Rubin fans came and were very vocal, got behind their team and supported them very well.

"I would be very surprised if there were any issues tomorrow night. For us, it is about playing a very good game against a very good side.

"We all have to understand that in football, wherever you are, there needs to be zero-tolerance with anything like that.

"But we will concentrate on the game and make sure that if there is anything else, that the officials will take care of that."

He added: "I don't think there will be any issues.

"I have spoken to the Rubin Kazan coach and he is an outstanding football man at an outstanding football club.

"I don't envisage any problems whatsoever, I have to say that, and if there are, the powers that be will deal with that."

Wigan captain Emmerson Boyce made it clear he would consider walking off the field if he and his team-mates are racially abused during the contest.

Boyce was not prepared to say if he would definitely lead his players off in the face of any abuse, but he is keen to make a stand.

"Would we walk off? It all comes down to how bad it is. You see a lot of games

where people complain about racism but no-one has actually walked off," he said.

"It doesn't scare me. It's all about educating. There was a message sent out

by UEFA last week and we want to make a stand, showing that football is bigger than racism or people still thinking that way."
