Tottenham will not be stopped from completing any 11th-hour deals tonight despite their game against Wigan ending just before the transfer window shuts, according to first-team coach Joe Jordan.
Spurs have been linked with a host of players, most notably Blackburn pair Christopher Samba and Junior Hoilett, during this month's transfer window, but their only capture so far has been the permanent signing of Juventus loanee Yago Falque.
The Barclays Premier League title chasers have become infamous for their last-minute purchases on deadline day, although Harry Redknapp's ongoing trial may mean they are less likely to conclude any transfers.
Spurs' game against Wigan is due to end just 90 minutes before the window shuts, making the chances of any dealings even more remote, but Jordan claims that the match against the Latics does not mean a last-gasp venture into the market can be ruled out.
"I don't think the game will affect things, really," he said.
"There are people within the club that know what the thoughts of the manager are and they get on and do it.
"You concentrate on what job you are supposed to do so that's got nothing to do with it.
"Nothing is imminent as far as I am aware, but in the past Tottenham have come in with a late purchase and there's always a possibility in football."
Whether Spurs sign anyone before tonight's deadline could depend on the movement of players out of White Hart Lane.
The likes of Giovani Dos Santos, Heurelho Gomes, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka head a list of up to eight players who are either unsettled or want to leave the club after becoming frustrated at a lack of first-team football.
Sebastien Bassong has also been strongly linked with a move away from the club, although his departure will only come if Spurs snap up Samba as a replacement as they are already suffering from injuries at the back.
Jordan, meanwhile, gave some encouraging news about the return from injury of Sandro and Tom Huddlestone.
Sandro has not played since January 3 after tearing a calf muscle and Huddlestone has been absent all season due to a long-term ankle injury.
"Sandro has trained with us but he has been out for a month now," Jordan said.
"We are not rushing him. He is back, his injury is clear and we have to make sure he is OK by not rushing him.
"Tom Huddlestone is doing OK. Tom has been excellent in his recovery because he is that type of player that wants to go and get back as quickly as possible, but he realises that there is a need to be cautious."
