Brighton put their FA Cup humbling at the hands of Liverpool behind them with a gritty goalless draw against fellow npower Championship play-off hopefuls Hull.
The Seagulls were hammered 6-1 at Anfield on Sunday but showed their resilience by extending their unbeaten league run to eight matches despite the Tigers' dominance.
Hull substitute Mclean should have won it 12 minutes from the end but he skied over the bar from close range.
And, as in October when the two met at the Amex Stadium, the contest ended without a goal as Hull missed out on the chance to climb into the play-off places despite extending their own unbeaten league sequence to six.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet was happy to take a point after conceding his side were second best for much of the game.
"I analyse the game and I'm always honest," he said. "For half-an-hour we looked alright and then Cameron Stewart hit the crossbar and they put us under pressure and created more chances, they finished the first half better than us.
"Second half we tried to be more organised and not give too much space but at the same time we tried to win the game.
"This pitch is not the best in the division which made us change the way we played. We need to take the point, it's a good point for us."
