Paolo Di Canio: Favourite to get Reading job

Paolo Di Canio remains Sky Bet's odds-on favourite to be the next Reading manager after the struggling Premier League side parted company with Brian McDermott.

The online bookmaker suspended betting on their next Premier League manager to go market on Monday afternoon after seeing McDermott backed in from 20/1 to as a short as 1/4.

The development was followed shortly after by confirmation that McDermott had been sacked, with the Royals four points adrift of safety and favourites for relegation following a fourth successive Premier League defeat.

Di Canio is available having left Swindon last month and at 1800 GMT on Tuesday was the 4/5 favourite.

Former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo has been backed into 11/4 second-favourite for the Royals post.

Reading are yet to speak to any prospective candidates, Press Association Sport understands.
