Gus Poyet: Backed for Reading job

Gus Poyet has emerged as Sky Bet's new odds-on favourite to be the next Reading manager following a run of bets on Wednesday afternoon.

The Brighton boss has been backed industry wide for the post, prompting his price to come in from 7/2 in the morning to 1/2 by 1800 GMT.

According to Sky Sports sources, he has been granted permission to talk to the Premier League strugglers although neither club has yet commented on the rumours.

Nigel Adkins started the day at the head of the market but moved to 7/4 by the evening, with caretaker boss Eamonn Dolan and Bradford manager Phil Parkinson both 12/1 and initial favourite Paolo Di Canio at 25s.

Former France boss Laurent Blanc was also prominent in the market at 9/1.

Sky Bet's Chris Spicer said: "The money has poured in across the industry for Poyet to take the job, promoting us to significantly cut his price.

"While a Premier League job initially appears an ideal step up for the highly-rated Brighton boss, it might be considered a questionable move with the Royals 1/16 for relegation, while his current club are 9/2 to reach the top flight as they sit just outside the Championship play-off places."
