On his last visit to Montenegro, Rooney was sent off for kicking Miodrag Dzudovic, earning himself a two-match ban which ruined his Euro 2012.

The Manchester United man was one of just three members of that starting line-up to retain their places, with Joe Hart and Ashley Cole the others.

Cole was one of six changes to Roy Hodgson's starting line-up from Friday's eight-goal hammering of San Marino, which kept England two points behind Montenegro in the battle for Group H supremacy.

Skipper Steven Gerrard also returned and was joined in midfield by Michael Carrick and James Milner.

Glen Johnson shrugged off a toe injury to take his place in the starting line-up, whilst Danny Welbeck returned, becoming a fifth Manchester United player in Hodgson's team as Tom Cleverley extended his ever-present record.

England team to play Montenegro in World Cup qualifying Group H tonight: Hart, Johnson, Smalling, Lescott, Cole, Gerrard, Carrick, Milner, Cleverley, Welbeck, Rooney.

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
