Messi: Positive news on injury

Barcelona have revealed the injury suffered by Lionel Messi in last night's Champions League draw at Paris St Germain is not as bad as first feared, although he will definitely miss this weekend's visit of Real Mallorca in La Liga.

Messi was removed at half-time during the 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes with a hamstring problem but in a statement Barcelona confirmed the 25-year-old could still play a part in the return leg at the Nou Camp next Wednesday.

"The club's medical services have revealed that Leo Messi's hamstring injury will definitely rule him out of this weekend's game against Mallorca, whilst his availability after that will depend on how the injury progresses," read a statement on Barcelona's website.

"The Barca number 10 felt a twinge in his right hamstring towards the end of the first half last night and failed to reappear after the break, with Cesc Fabregas taking his place."

Messi also confirmed the injury was less serious than first thought in a statement posted on his official Facebook page.

"I will return soon," he said. "Thankfully it was not so serious."

Messi's absence from the Mallorca game brings a premature end to his incredible scoring streak in the Primera Division.

At the weekend, Messi became the first player to score against every other side in the Spanish top flight in successive matches after netting for the 19th consecutive league game.
