Xavi: Is confident Barcelona will recover from their Champions League humbling

Barcelona midfielder Xavi is adamant the Champions League exit to Bayern Munich does not signal the end of an era for the club.

Barca established themselves as the best team in the world during a stunning run of success that saw the Catalan giants win 14 trophies in four years under Pep Guardiola.

They are also poised to claim the Primera Division title this season in Tito Vilanova's first campaign in charge, leaving bitter rivals and Copa del Rey conquerors Real Madrid in their wake.

And Xavi is confident the future remains bright for Barcelona despite the 7-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern in the Champions League semi-final.

"I think so, yes. There's no need to be drastic. The team has a future, we've competed very well up until now. I'm always optimistic and this team has the desire," Xavi said.

"We've not been able to get through the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and Champions League (but) I think we have the team to carry on. On Sunday we have another competition."

Barca have the opportunity to replace Real Madrid as Spanish champions this weekend and their players are now focussing on the match against Real Betis on Sunday.

Xavi's midfield partner Cesc Fabregas said: "The players are hurt, we have to react and win La Liga as soon as possible."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
