Joey Barton: Insulted Thiago Silva on Twitter

Marseille's on-loan midfielder Joey Barton has received a two-game suspended ban for insulting Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva on Twitter.

The French Football Federation summoned the QPR player to appear before their ethics committee for a second time after his offensive Twitter outburst about the Brazilian last month.

Marseille swiftly ordered Barton to cut out his comments and he has since apologised to both PSG and Silva.

The 30-year-old, who did not attend the hearing, will only serve the suspension if he uses offensive language again on Twitter and the ban is not related to his actions on the pitch.

Barton is cleared to play in the last three remaining league games for Marseille, who still have an outside chance of winning the title.
