Jamie Carragher: Liverpool career ends with Sunday's clash against QPR

Brendan Rodgers is full of praise for the "phenomenon" Jamie Carragher as the defender prepares for his final Liverpool game against QPR on Sunday.

The Reds stalwart is retiring at the end of the season to make the move to Sky Sports as part of next season's Premier League coverage and Rodgers reckons the viewers will be the winners.

Carragher has made 507 appearances during his professional career at Anfield and his current manager only has good things to say about the man who "epitomises everything" he wants in a player.

"He's a remarkable man," said Rodgers following Liverpool's 3-1 win at Fulham.

"There will be many things talked about him this week but his sheer professionalism is incredible.

"He's never had a lazy day since the day I've walked in and he probably hasn't had a lazy day since he walked into Liverpool.

"This is a phenomenon. There's a real sadness for me as he epitomises everything that I want as we are trying to build a team of winners.

"When the international break comes and we are left with two or three players it would be an easy opportunity for him to have an easy morning and relax, but he is haring about, pressing, working, organising and helping support the young players.

"He's never wanted an easy day and he's an absolute credit to his football club, his family and a sheer joy to work with."

Rodgers believes Carragher could continue his career but he understands why the 35-year-old is calling it a day and thinks the former England international will be "a joy to watch" in his new role.

"He's moving on to the media next season and he'll demonstrate his intelligence," added the Reds boss.

"His depth of knowledge of football will make him a joy to watch.

"I think supporters will see he's going to give an amazing insight as he steps right off being top of the bill and goes in front of the TV screens.

"For me he could play on but he's always wanted to go out at the top and there's no doubt he's doing that.

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
