The kit was first seen via the social media accounts of Jack Wilshere, who returned to The Priory School in Hitchin, where he studied before going on to become a star with Arsenal and the national team.

Wilshere tweeted a picture of the shirt being worn and wrote: "Like this kid, my England dream began here, so he was first in #theshirt - England's new kit from @NikeFootball".

American company Nike won the right to produce the England shirt last year, ending the Three Lions' association with Umbro, which had been in place since 1954.

Nike have gone for a plain white shirt with a dark ring around the neck.

Within minutes of the picture being tweeted, many Twitter users remarked that the new shirt bore a striking resemblance to the top that Germany used to wear in 1966, when England beat their old enemy in the World Cup final.

England will wear the kit for the first time against the Republic before donning the new shirt again when they play Brazil in a friendly at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro four days later.

t all started going downhill when they started putting a photo of the writer along side their story. Journalists started to think that 'they' are the story, rather than what they write. Smug, self obsessed & up their own arse's. That sums up the majority of newspaper sports reporters.

he reason so much sh*t is written about football is because there are so many people who want to read sh*t about football. Now shut up, take my money, and tell me Ronaldo is going to sign for Van Haal and that Mick McCarthy is signing Peter Crouch on loan.
