Derby are confident Paul Coutts (groin) will be available after he missed their final two pre-season friendlies.

Teenage striker Mason Bennett is also back in training after suffering a rib injury while in action for the under-21 side.

Summer signings Lee Grant, Johnny Russell, John Eustace and Adam Smith will all hope to make their debuts while Chris Martin and Craig Forsyth, on loan at Pride Park last season, remain available after joining the club on permanent deals.

Blackburn could hand debuts to as many as eight new players.

Defender Tommy Spurr and Hull loanee Tom Cairney are likely to feature after joining the club on Thursday.

Former Leeds defender Matt Kilgallon is also among those hoping to make their bow, while striker DJ Campbell is unavailable after damaging ankle ligaments in pre-season

Last season: Blackburn 2 Derby 0, Derby 1 Blackburn 1

Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire)

Our verdict: Derby 2 Blackburn 1 - The Rams can make a fast start.

e was right to leave, but not just because of the money City were coming into. If I remember rightly he had a reasonable amount of chances to shine at City, but he never passed the bloody ball. Loads of aimless dribbles and 40 yard shots and not much else. I would say that if he had learnt to be a bit more of a team player he may have done better at City.
