Robin van Persie was a costly Price Boost for Sky Bet

Robin van Persie led the way with the opening goal in Sky Sports' first televised game of the Premier League season, after Sky Bet had boosted his price to 9/2.

The Dutch international was also quoted at 28/1 to score first in either a 3-1 or a 4-1 win for United, who were backed off the boards to beat Swansea.

No fewer than three scorecast Price Boosts landed, with Joe Cole and a 2-0 West Ham win rewarding punters at 66/1 along with two in La Liga at 40/1 and 50s.

Rickie Lambert capped a fine week in his career with the opener for Southampton at West Brom which had been boosted to 7/1, while Olivier Giroud was also popular at a boosted 5/1 to open the scoring for Arsenal against Aston Villa.

It wasn't just football punters who took advantage of the Price Boosts, either.

The Leeds-based firm were out to get Europe in the Solheim Cup at an industry-best 7/2, while Saturday's racing saw four of the eight Price Boost horses win and it was a similar story on Sunday.

Sky Bet are bracing themselves for a busy start to the week with the first Monday Night Football of the season and Alvaro Negredo is the one they'll be looking to avoid, with Manchester City's latest acquisition boosted to 9/2 to score first.

Newcastle backers also have the opportunity to take 16/1 about Papiss Cisse opening the scoring at the Etihad Stadium while a 2-1 win for the visitors is the subject of a correct score Price Boost at 40/1 from 33s.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
