Sergio Aguero: Has lauded City's togetherness

Manchester City's two-goal derby star Sergio Aguero claims praise for the 4-1 demolition of Manchester United must be shared around the team.

Aguero shone with goals in each half as City thrashed their neighbours in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.

There were plenty of other heroes in what was a fine City performance at the Etihad Stadium but Aguero did not want to take any of the glory himself or single out other individuals.

The Argentina striker said: "The most important thing is that the goals gave us the win.

"I'm very happy that we won three important points, especially against United.

"All the team were brilliant, the defence as well. We're all one team. There are no individual heroes.

"We're all heroes, even the players on the bench. The most important thing is we won and we are happy."

City started at a ferocious pace and went ahead after 16 minutes when Aguero finished off a slick attack by brilliantly volleying in an Aleksandar Kolarov cross.

Yaya Toure doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time before Aguero and Samir Nasri added two more in the opening five minutes of the second period.

The champions limited damage thereafter and pulled one back with a superb Wayne Rooney free-kick but the message City had sent out in terms of the title race was loud and clear.

Aguero, 25, said: "We didn't expect it but we were really motivated to win, and that led us to the victory.

"So that motivation helped us play without any anxiety.

"The most important thing is to give all you have, the confidence and the attitude that the team had was very good.

"And in the second half, despite winning 2-0, we kept playing like that. We played very well."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
