Ed Houghton from Knutsford is £250,000 the richer after landing the Super 6 jackpot by predicting correct scores in six selected matches on Saturday.

The win will be all the sweeter as the top prize was hiked up from £100k to £250k for the new season after two years without a winner and, remarkably, it was Mr Houghton's first attempt at the free-to-play online game.

Mr Houghton was the only entrant of 505,731 to correctly predict the exact outcomes of Cardiff v Newcastle (1-2), Fulham v Stoke (1-0), Hull City v Aston Villa (0-0), Liverpool v Crystal Palace (3-1), Burnley v Reading (2-1) and QPR v Barnsley (2-0) thanks to Charlie Austin's late penalty for Harry Redknapp's side.

With millions having tried and failed since the last winner back in May 2011, the weekly game is considered the ultimate test of football knowledge due to the difficulty posed, with only two previous jackpot winners since it was launched back in 2008.

Mr Houghton joins an exclusive club of Super 6 winners along with Peter Townly and Jonathan Kilpatrick. The top prize was almost landed on the opening weekend of the Sky Bet Football League season, with one unlucky entrant denied by Luke Murphy's 94th-minute winner in Leeds' 2-1 victory.

If you fancy a crack at future Super 6 games, we also have the Sporting Life League for you to join in the fun.

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
