Manuel Neuer: Hoping to face England

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has no intention of standing aside and letting Roman Weidenfeller receive his first cap for the friendly against England on Tuesday.

Neuer has been assured of his place in the Germany goal against Italy in Milan on Friday night, but Weidenfeller may be chosen to play at Wembley as national team coach Joachim Low wants to take a closer look at a fringe candidate for his World Cup squad next summer.

Neuer admits he would be disappointed if the Borussia Dortmund player was picked ahead of him.

"As a professional, you want to be involved in games against such teams," he said.

"Particularly in view of the World Cup, games like this against attractive opponents are worth a lot because they could come up against us in the knockout stage, so this is a chance to gain experience against them.

"I'll just have to see what the coach decides."

Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler, who is unlikely to feature in either match, makes up a trio which former Germany number one Oliver Kahn believes should be the players heading to Brazil next summer.

"It's all about sending the best three goalkeepers to Brazil," he told Kicker magazine.

"It's not totally necessary to pick a young second or third goalkeeper because the undoubted number one Manuel Neuer is still only 27."

That would boost the chances of Weidenfeller, who would become the oldest debutant goalkeeper in a Germany shirt should he play, to be part of the squad as Hans-Jorg Butt was at the age of 36 during the last World Cup.

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
