Shola Ameobi: Has suffered racist abuse

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has backed striker Shola Ameobi to brush off the racist abuse which he was subjected to this week.

Northumbria police have launched an investigation after the 30-year-old was attacked via Facebook just months after his younger brother Sammy, who also plays for the Magpies, was targeted on Twitter.

Pardew condemned the latest incident, but insisted Nigeria-born Ameobi would not be affected by it as he prepares for Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Pardew said: "It's a two-edged sword. There's one side of that that you don't want to see, and it's insulting and everything that goes with it.

"But on the other side it highlights the issue, that it needs to be eradicated from our society.

"The publicity around Shola won't affect him, he's far too big and strong to be affected by that.

"But it's good to have it in the public spotlight and to say it's wrong so young people realise that when they are going on Facebook or social networking sites, that they understand they have a responsibility.

"Hopefully they can understand it is an issue and a problem and they need to leave it alone."

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.

den Hazard, def. - 1) that girl in a club who makes eyes at you all night, who allows you to buy her a drink and walk her home arm in arm, who then gives you a suggestive kiss on her doorstep before declaring how tired she is and how she has to be up early the next day. 2) A cock tease.
