Scott McDonald: Out for eight weeks with knee injury

Middlesborough have suffered an injury blow with news that frontman Scott McDonald could miss eight weeks of action with ligament damage.

The 28-year-old had to be withdrawn in the second half of Middlesborough's 2-2 draw at Leicester City on Wednesday night.

McDonald opened the scoring for his side to equalise following David Nugent's seventh minute goal but was forced off the field to later find out he had suffered medial ligament damage.

The Australia international is Middleborough's top-scorer in the Championship with his latest strike taking his tally to nine for the season.

And with fifth-place Boro aiming to end their run of five straight matches without a victory, Tony Mowbray's side have been dealt a costly setback.

"He will be out for six to eight weeks, four to six weeks, take your pick," the Middlesborough manager said.

"He's desperately unhappy and it's another big loss for us."

Mowbray's side could be without McDonald for 12 matches as they host Crystal Palace on Saturday looking for their first win since Boxing Day.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

I

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
