Jordan Henderson wants to seal his place on the plane to Brazil after he made his return to the England starting line-up after a lengthy absence.

Wednesday night's 1-0 win over Denmark was the first time Henderson had started an England match since he made his debut in November 2010.

Shortly after earning his first cap, the 23-year-old joined Liverpool for a £20million fee which weighed heavy on his shoulders during his first two years at Anfield.

This year the midfielder has found his feet at the Merseyside club, playing a key role in Liverpool's push for the title.

Henderson's desire to be an England regular is stronger than ever with the World Cup now in view.

"It has been a while since I started (an England game) so it was nice to get a start again and if I keep working hard I will have a few more in the summer," the Liverpool midfielder said.

"It was brilliant to get out there for the senior team.

"It's always good to represent your country. I did my best and hopefully from now until the end of the season I can do my best to get in the squad for the summer."

Henderson was not one of the stand-out performers in the win over Denmark - in truth there were hardly of any to speak of.

But there are plenty of things that will stand in Henderson's favour when Hodgson comes to select his 23 for Brazil.

He is a versatile player who is capable of playing as a deep-lying midfielder or further up the field.

Another factor that will help is that he plays with Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling in a front six which is setting the Barclays Premier League alight at the moment.

Along with Glen Johnson, Liverpool had five players in the starting XI for the first time since 1977.

"I didn't know about that (statistic) but it is fantastic," Henderson said on TheFA.com.

"It shows how well we are doing. There is a lot of confidence in the team so hopefully we can bring that into the international set up as well."

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
