Coleman: Pleased with opportunity to face Mexico

The Football Association of Wales have confirmed that Chris Coleman's side will face Mexico in a friendly on Sunday, May 27 in New Jersey.

The match will be played at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, kicking off at 3pm local time (8pm in the UK).

Coleman said: "This will be a great opportunity for the team to test themselves against one of the best teams from the Americas.

"Mexico has plenty of top-class players and the way that the side adapts to the different style of play of our opponents will be interesting to watch.

"I am very happy for us to secure the game as we continue our World Cup (qualifying) preparations."

Wales and Mexico have faced each other twice before, most famously playing out a 1-1 draw in the group stages of the World Cup finals in Sweden in 1958.

Four years later, Wales legend John Charles scored in a 2-1 defeat in Mexico City.

Wales have played once before in the United States, losing 2-0 to the national side in San Jose, California in May 2003 under Mark Hughes.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
