Samba: Transfer request was turned down

Blackburn manager Steve Kean is eager for the situation surrounding want-away defender Chris Samba to be resolved as soon as possible.

Samba has not played for Rovers since the beginning of January after seeing his transfer request rejected.

The Congolese centre-back was linked with Tottenham, Queens Park Rangers and French giants Paris St Germain during the winter transfer window but was refused a move.

He was left out of Kean's squad for Saturday's trip to Arsenal, where Blackburn suffered a 7-1 thrashing, despite being fit.

The manager wants to see his future decided sooner rather than later, admitting Rovers felt his absence at Emirates Stadium.

He said "Without going too deep he's fit and he's available for selection but I've decided not to put him in the squad.

"It's a situation we'd like to get resolved as soon as possible because I think the way we are just now is not really helpful for anybody - us or him.

"He's one of our key defenders and you always miss any player when they're not available."

Meanwhile Kean intends to make sure Blackburn never get torn apart like they did at Arsenal again.

Rovers remain 19th, three points behind Wolves who won at fellow strugglers QPR, whom they host next weekend.

Kean said: "I have done enough talking. Now what we will do is get back on the training ground and will work ourselves through it.

"We will be speaking about the game, analysing it. We will be doing sessions to replicate if it happened again - those situations in wide areas where we need to be putting pressure on the ball and we need to be doubling up.

"We will go through it, every scenario, we will work ourselves through every goal and situation, so that it doesn't happen again."

Kean added: "We have not got may games left and we need to get to a position on points that is going to take us out of this zone we are in."

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

I

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
