Osman missing from 'Famous Five'

Leon Osman has a feeling his presence will be missed amongst Everton's non-international 'Famous Five'.

Leon Osman has a funny feeling his presence will be missed amongst Everton's non-international 'Famous Five'.

Normally during international weeks, Osman remains at Finch Farm, along with the other members of David Moyes' squad not required by their respective countries.

Osman is the joker in that particular pack. However, the 31-year-old will fly to Stockholm on Tuesday, hopefully to make his England debut against Sweden on Wednesday.

And the midfielder knows where he would prefer to be.

"There's usually five us left behind there," said Osman of his normal international-week experience. "Me, Phil Neville, Sylvain Distain, Tony Hibbert and Steven Pienaar, who has retired from international football now.

"There's not much you can do. It's usually running. I'm sure they will miss me. I'm the lively one. But I'm a lot happier to be here I can tell you."

Osman's chances of starting at the newly constructed Friends Arena have been adversely affected by confirmation that skipper Steven Gerrard will be available.

Gerrard was sent for a precautionary scan on the blow he suffered to his knee during Liverpool's draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

The midfielder appeared relaxed about the prospect at England's team hotel on Monday afternoon and subsequent scan results have justified such a stance, meaning he will become the sixth Three Lions player to reach 100 caps.

"It's a great achievement to get to where he has got in the game and hopefully making his 100th cap," said Osman.

"We've played against each other for Liverpool and Everton since we were young kids.

"I know the qualities he brings to the game: determination, desire to win, passing.

"It's difficult to play against him, so it would be a delight to play with him I am sure."

With competition so intense, even if Osman does make his debut tomorrow, there is no guarantee he will add any more caps to his tally.

After all, Jack Wilshere and Tom Cleverley are amongst the central midfield options available to Roy Hodgson in this squad, Michael Carrick has been rested, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker injured, and Gareth Barry presently overlooked.

"I wouldn't say I'd given up. Although it was looking more and more unlikely, as an English lad I would never say never," said Osman.

"It was something I was hopeful might happen and it's fantastic to be here.

"If it's a one-off that's great but being the character I want to be recognised, then get in the squad, then a cap.

"If I get one cap I'll want two.

"I won't settle for anything but if it turns out to be one cap I'll be delighted."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
