Blackburn were defeated for the first time in pre-season as an experienced Everton side ran out 3-1 winners.

After a bright start that saw Chris Taylor shoot narrowly wide, Rovers fell behind to a deflected Kevin Mirallas shot.

The Toffees made a number of half-time changes, and Nikica Jelavic came off the bench to score twice. First, he headed home a Steven Pienaar corner after 55 minutes and then slotted home the rebound 12 minutes from the end after Jake Kean had saved the Croatian's initial shot.

Gary Bowyer's side did get a late consolation through Scott Dann's back post header from a Morten Gamst-Pedersen corner.

I

s it the same people that complain about Chelsea that complain about Mayweather? You should by now know what to expect from both, if you can't appreciate how good they are at nullifying their opponents then don't watch them.

I

do concede though, that getting rid of Luiz has made them less entertaining. In the same way that driving with both eyes open is less exciting, but probably a good idea.
