Roberto Martinez: Delighted with Everton's spirit

Roberto Martinez feels "something special" is emerging at Goodison Park as Everton look to finish the year unbeaten at home in the Premier League.

The Toffees have just five home matches left at home this year, and if they avoid defeat in those - they will have gone the whole of 2013 without defeat in front of their own fans, something they have achieved just once before in 1962.

Indeed their only home defeat in any competition this year was at the hands of Martinez himself when Wigan shocked them in the FA Cup last term.

Sunday's draw with Tottenham means it has been some 20 months since Everton lost on Merseyside in the league, and Martinez believes he is already witnessing some special.

"We all know that there's something special in that dressing room and I do feel that it is evolving into something special," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"All we want to do is fulfil our potential as quickly as we can and make sure that we can get into a position where in February or March then we can look at the competition and see where we are.

"At the moment the attitude of the players, the competition that we have and the way they work on a daily basis is giving me an incredible feeling that we have got something special in the dressing room."

Martinez believes Everton's form at Goodison Park will be crucial to them continuing their run of form.

"I was looking at our run at Goodison Park for a long, long time and we expect to get wins and we expect to get positive results," he said.

"That's what I want. I want to encourage that. We need to have those expectations. Increased expectations are good for us.

"What's important is that we know we have played against a very good Spurs side and without being at our best we were able to keep a clean sheet and then grow into something of a better level in the second half.

"That's encouraging and that's what we want as a squad."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
