Two-goal hero Curtis Davies earned the full praise of Birmingham boss Chris Hughton after his man of the match performance in Saturday's 3-0 victory over struggling Watford.
The centre-back headed home either side of half-time to put City in firm command, taking his tally for the season to five, which includes four headers in the club's last seven games.
But Hughton was more impressed with Davies' solid defensive work, with the 26-year-old proving a pivotal figure at the heart of a Blues rearguard which has only narrowly conceded more goals than West Ham and Hull in the Championship this term - including just six in 13 games on home soil.
Hughton said: "Davies will attract the headlines but I am more concerned about his overall play, which at the moment is very good.
"We needed his goals but his real quality was at the other end. He is defending really well and Marvin Sordell is a very good player and we defended extremely well against him."
