Ipswich boss Paul Jewell has confirmed he has made bids for five players in the last week as he looks to bolster his ranks.
Jewell continues to keep his cards close to his chest regarding their identities, although Pompey duo Jason Pearce and Joel Ward, Falkirk defender Murray Wallace as well as Crewe's attacking midfielder Nick Powell have all been strongly linked.
"We are looking to improve the team and not just for this season but in seasons going on," Jewell told Town's official website.
"We have offers in for five players. They are all players, young players, who are at an age where they can help take Ipswich Town on.
"We think the offers we have made are fair ones. Obviously we know the transfer deadline is approaching and we'd like to have some new faces here before the West Ham game (next Tuesday) but we will have to wait and see what happens. Signing a player now, any player, is so complicated - and so frustrating."
