Beckford: Controversially sent off

Leicester will appeal against the red card that Jermaine Beckford received during the 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

Beckford was controversially sent off early in the second half of the game at the Amex Stadium on Saturday.

After mistiming a challenge on Lewis Dunk down near the corner flag in the 53rd minute, Beckford tapped the Brighton defender on the back and exchanged words with him.

This led to the referee's assistant flagging furiously and the Foxes striker being shown a straight red card by referee Andy Woolmer, much to the disbelief of the Leicester players.

"Leicester City have this morning (Monday) received notification from the Football Association confirming the grounds for Jermaine Beckford's dismissal in Saturday's Championship fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion," said a statement on Leicester's official website. "The club has notified the FA of its intention to appeal and will submit its case later today."

Beckford, who will serve a three-match suspension if the appeal is unsuccessful, was not the only Foxes player to be sent off against Brighton, Neil Danns was also dismissed in injury time after committing a second bookable offence.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

I

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
