Nice midfielder Emerse Fae has been told to quit top-level football due to health reasons, the Ligue 1 club have announced.
The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international was sidelined with phlebitis, an inflammation of a vein caused by a blood clot, for three months in 2009 and then again in March last year.
He returned to the Nice squad in September but another relapse in October has ultimately signalled the end of his Nice career.
A statement on www.ogcnice.com read: "A feeling of sadness of has fallen over the red and black family. The panel of experts who evaluated the case of Emerse Fae have not authorised him to continue his football career at the highest level."
Fae, who was under contract until June, joined Nice from English club Reading in 2008 having previously represented Nantes in France.
