Maarten Martens: Winning brace

Maarten Martens: Winning brace

Maarten Martens scored twice as AZ Alkmaar came from behind to beat minnows GVVV Veenendaal 2-1 in their KNVB Beker quarter-final on Wednesday night.

Dennis van Meegdenburg opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give the third tier side hope of springing a major upset.

But Martens levelled nine minutes later and completed the comeback in the 66th minute.

In this evening's other last-eight clash, Heracles Almelo swept aside 10-man RKC Waalwijk 3-0.

Samuel Armenteros opened the scoring in the 30th minute and they doubled their advantage through Kwame Quansah five minutes later.

Marko Vejinovic made it three in the 58th minute and the visitors' miserable night was complete when they had Evander Sno sent off 17 minutes from time.

r. Miller, I'd far rather be left with the lingering thought of What if...? as opposed to the very much confirmed Dear God, Gervinho is p**s in white knickers!

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.

Farewell Big, Brutal, Big-Balled B**tard

I

remember him scoring a 25-yarder, either the season just gone or the one before, against Bolton at the Reebok. I've never seen a ball hit that hard before in my entire life. You could almost feel the shockwave from his foot contacting it 40 yards away in the stands. Didier Droga. You might not have loved him, but you just had to be in awe of him.
