Gertjan Verbeek: New deal

AZ Alkmaar coach Gertjan Verbeek has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension after making a big impact on his first 18 months in charge.

Verbeek, who has committed to AZ until summer 2015, has impressed since taking the reins at the Eredivisie club for the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

AZ finished fourth last season and are currently third in the table and just three points adrift of the top spot.

The club also finished second in their Europa League group this term and will face Anderlecht in the round of 32.

Verbeek told Uefa's official website of his renewed terms: "I have been working very well with everyone here at the club, so I am extremely happy with it."

ou realise this means he'll have more free time to tweet, appear on newsnight, and google philosphers... ban seems about right, but there will never be consistency from the FA, so that completely undermines any possible lesson to the kids. Apart from the lesson about being part of an important cash cow.

here has only been 3 players who made me hold my breath in dread when they picked the ball up anywhere near our penalty area...in their prime Scholes and Giggs... and always Drogba. Awesome player who on his day was the best striker in the world in my opinion.
