The hosts had taken the lead shortly before half-time in Sunday's Premier League clash courtesy of Claudio Yacob and saw ex-Arsenal striker Nicolas Anelka spurn two good opportunities to double their advantage before Jack Wilshere equalised with a deflected shot.

But the Albion boss felt a point apiece was just about the right result, despite having their fair share of chances to win it.

"We started slowly this year," he told Sky Sports. "The last four games have been much better, we played to a good level.

"We gave as good as we got (today) and we stood toe to toe with one of the better teams in the division and for us that's a big thing to take into the rest of the season."

And Clarke was equally happy for goalscorer Yacob, who bagged his first goal for the club with a firm near-post header.

"Claudio is dangerous in the air - he's a good size and attacks the ball well," added the Scot. "We've used him in a lot of set plays and we haven't quite had the end result, but we have today and at that stage I thought we deserved to be in front.

"We play with four attacking players and you need a defensive base behind that. Claudio and Youssouf (Mulumbu) have done that since they've come to the club.

"They screen the back four, they've got a good work ethic breaking-up play well and they keep it simple in possession."

couple of wins and everything is OK! Sorry you still haven't got a striker who can consistently goals. Keep searching. I don't think Liverpool will make top four not even Europa League this time around.

f he can find the right player? Surely the manager of one of Europe's top clubs has a well-researched short-list and has a good idea of who he wants to bring on-board? If I can find the right player sounds like someone going out on Saturday night on the pull, and the nearer you get to midnight the lower your standards drop.
