Adams snubs Arsenal offer to take job in China

Tony Adams has rejected an offer to coach Arsenal’s under-18 side and will instead take up a role in China.

Arsene Wenger offered former Arsenal legend Adams – who featured in Daniel Storey’s Portrait of an Icon this week – the job following Thierry Henry’s decided to leave after being told to choose between his TV work and coaching.

Wenger turned to Adams on the condition that the former England captain first complete a trial period.

However, only a few weeks into the trial the 49-year-old has agreed a “lucrative contract” to become the head of youth development at Chinese outfit Chongqing Lifan, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, reports on Saturday suggest Riyad Mahrez will join the Gunners in a €50million transfer from Leicester.
