Adams: Tactics, not transfers, to blame for Arsenal woes

Tony Adams suggests Arsene Wenger’s tactical approach is to blame for Arsenal’s problems, rather than a lack of transfer activity.

Arsenal supporters have grown increasingly frustrated by Wenger’s apparent reluctance to spend big in the transfer market.

But former Gunners hero Adams  – who featured in Daniel Storey’s portrait of an icon series – has backed the Frenchman’s stance on signing players.

“I admire Arsene for sticking to his financial principles, although I wish tactically he could get the balance right between defence and attack,” he told ESPN.

However, the former England captain is confident Arsenal will impress this season: “We have a lot of players to come back in, and it was a good point last weekend away to the reigning champions.

“As for the match against Liverpool, you always do get some funny results in the first game of the new season.”
