Emmanuel Adebayor wanted a £5m pay-off to leave Tottenham. The club were unwilling to meet that demand.
Adebayor had been expected to join West Ham on Deadline Day, but those hopes were extinguished by the striker’s demand that Spurs pay up the final year of his contract.
Despite Spurs evidently wanting to get rid of Adebayor, who has been frozen out at White Hart Lane, they declared their unwillingness to meet the striker’s request.
That leaves Adebayor in a position whereby a move was unlikely, but still gives him no meaningful future at Tottenham.
He also turned down a move to Aston Villa earlier in the summer because he wanted to remain in London.
It’s all a sorry situation. Do you blame the player for being so stubborn, or the club for giving him the contract?
