Aguero and Alli among January award nominees
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli are among the nominees for the January Player of the Month award.
Aguero has scored five times in January for Manchester City, while Alli bagged a goal of the season contender in Tottenham’s visit to Crystal Palace late on in the month.
Jermain Defoe is also nominated after boosting Sunderland’s chances of avoiding the drop after his five goals helped the Black Cats to two victories over Aston Villa and Swansea.
Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino – who bagged four goals for the Reds against Arsenal and Norwich – make up the final three nominees.
West Ham picked up seven points in January and boss Slaven Bilic is one of a four-man group vying for the Manager of the Month award.
Ronald Koeman is also in contention with three wins out of four for the Saints, while Tottenham gaffer Mauricio Pochettino and outgoing Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini complete the quartet.
