Alan Shearer has revisited a time when Roy Keane tried to punch him during a football game.
Keane aimed a punch at Shearer shortly after aiming a throw-in at his head during a 4-3 victory for Newcastle over Manchester United in September 2001.
The United midfielder was dismissed for his part in the fracas in stoppage time, and according to Shearer, he waited for the forward in the tunnel.
“It was funny because when he walked off the pitch, it was only the last minute or two of the game,” Shearer told The True Geordie.
“He’d been given the red card and he was waiting for me at the top of the tunnel at St James’, we tried to get to each other but we couldn’t.
“It was like ‘hold me back, don’t hold me back’, but we couldn’t get to each other. It would have been interesting.”
When the host put it to Shearer that he “would have knocked [Keane] out,” the former striker responded in kind.
“Of course I would have.”
