Aldridge: Liverpool need a Lukaku or a Kane

John Aldridge believes the answer to Liverpool’s problems lies in ‘unearthing a 20-goal-a-season striker’.

The Reds have won only one game in 2017 – an FA Cup replay at Plymouth – and have scored just eight goals in 10 games.

That run has coincided with the absence of top scorer Sadio Mane, but the Senegal forward was back at the weekend to start the 2-0 defeat at strugglers Hull.

Aldridge believes Jurgen Klopp would go a long way to solving his side’s woes by finding a striker capable of bagging over 20 goals a season. Like Romelu Lukaku or Harry Kane. Because it’s just that simple…

“We need an out-and-out goalscorer,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Look across the Park at Romelu Lukaku. He doesn’t give you a lot outside the penalty box but hey he’s scored 16 goals. That’s exactly what we need.

“When we had four players all scoring it was great but you need your match-winner up front.

“I think we’ve got to find one. Daniel Sturridge is not going to do it because the manager is not playing him. We need to unearth a 20-goal-a-season man.

“Tottenham have got Harry Kane. He’s been through a lean spell but has come through it with flying colours and that shows his strong mental attitude to prove people wrong.”
