A former youth coach and scout who has worked at Norwich, Peterborough and Cambridge United has been arrested as part of the investigation into historic child sex abuse in football.

Michael Sean Carson, who is better known as Kit Carson, was arrested by Cambridgeshire Police in Cambridge this morning on suspicion of indecency with children and indecent assault.

Press Association Sport understands Carson remains in custody.

According to his football consultancy’s website, which has now been taken down, the 73-year-old has coached a host of leading players.

He worked at Norwich as a youth coach between 1983 and 1993, before moving to Peterborough to run their youth academy until 2001.

He then spent five years at Cambridge as their head of talent development.

A statement from the League Two club read: “We are co-operating fully with the police investigation.

“It would be inappropriate for us to comment further while this inquiry is ongoing.”

More recently, he has worked at non-league Histon in Cambridgeshire and been a football scout in Finland. According to his LinkedIn page, Carson has also written two coaching manuals.

Following his arrest, Cambridgeshire FA emailed a statement to clubs, coaches, referees and volunteers in the county.

The statement read: “We (Cambridgeshire FA) note the arrest today (Friday 27th January) in the Cambridge area of a man in relation to non-recent allegations of abuse related to football. This is a Police matter and we await the outcome of the of this investigation.

“In line with our normal procedures, Cambridgeshire FA and The FA have been working with the statutory agencies on this matter.

“We would also support the advice of the Cambridgeshire Police to encourage anyone with concerns about these allegations to contact police on 101 or the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.”
