German international midfielder Leon Goretzka could choose to stay at Schalke rather than leave the club in the summer, says their optimistic sporting director Christian Heidel.
Goretzka – scorer of six goals in just 12 appearances for Germany – has been strongly linked with a free transfer move to Arsenal.
Last week there were reports from Spain that he had decided to join Liverpool next summer to dovetail with Reds-bound Naby Keita.

“I think if Schalke had no chance to keep him I would be the first to know that,” Heidel told German outlet SportBild. “But I haven’t received that kind of information until now.
“Leon will make a decision soon without us building any pressure on him.”
Goretzka has also been linked with Manchester City and Barcelona.
