Arsenal remain calm despite Wilshere injury setback

Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez are both involved in Arsenal’s final leg of their pre-season, but there is a fresh setback for Jack Wilshere.

The England international has picked up a knee injury, but the Gunners have made no mention of a potential return date after announcing their squad for the respective friendly matches against Viking and Manchester City in Scandinavia.

Centre-back Gabriel is back in the fold, though, after missing the US tour with tonsilitis, but Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud will all stay at home following their Euro 2016 exploits.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal staff remain ‘confident’ that Wilshere’s latest injury will not result in a ‘long-term’ problem, akin to the one which sidelined him for almost all of last season.

The midfielder featured just three times in the Premier League, before playing a part in England’s embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the first knockout stage.

Manager Arsene Wenger intimated that Wilshere would travel with the squad for their final pre-season preparations, but that the England international will remain at the club’s base in London to continue training and aid his recovery.
