Mesut Ozil has hinted that he would consider a surprise return to Real Madrid in the future.

Ozil left the Spanish giants in summer 2013 when Arsenal signed him in a club-record £42.5million deal.

The German has been a success in the Premier League, scoring 27 goals and assisting loads more in 134 games for the Gunners.

But with his contract situation still unresolved, the 28-year-old could review his options in the coming months.

Ozil’s deal at the Emirates expires in 2018, with the Gunners keen to extend his terms.

The two parties are yet to reach an agreement however, and Ozil has now hinted that he would at least consider a move back to Real, where he won one La Liga title in three years.

“Return to Madrid? You never know,” Ozil told Marca.

“Zidane was my idol, as a child I always wanted to be like him on the field.”
