Emmanuel Adebayor has been released from his Tottenham contract by mutual agreement after he reportedly demanded a £5m pay-off to leave.
The Togolese striker was no named in Tottenham’s Premier League or Europa League squads and manager Mauricio Pochettino said earlier this week that he was not “in my mind or in the plans for the future of Spurs”.
Adebayor joined Tottenham from Manchester City in 2012 after a successful loan spell and scored 35 goals in 87 Premier League appearances.
He was strongly linked with moves to both Aston Villa and West Ham this summer but was reportedly waiting for a sign from God that he should leave Tottenham.
That sign from God has now seemingly arrived in the form of the final year of his contract being paid up in full.
“We wish Emmanuel well for the future,” said Tottenham through presumably gritted teeth.
