Mario Balotelli has explained that he struggled so badly at Liverpool due to “physical problems”.
The Italian striker moved to Anfield in the summer of 2014 for £16million, but failed to make a positive impact at the club.
He scored four goals in 28 games, including just one in 16 in the Premier League.
Balotelli left Merseyside this summer to move to French side Nice, with Liverpool so keen to shed the striker’s £90,000 wages that they allowed him to leave on a free transfer.
“I think that my career is different from what has been written,” said Balotelli on Friday. “For me there is no risk, it’s just that I have been hampered by physical problems over the past two years.
“My priority is to play, that’s why I chose the Nice project. To be happy, I need to play.
“The decision was only a sporting one. It was best for me. Other teams wanted me but Nice is a good project.
“The coach believes in me and that’s why I’m here.”
