‘Bemused’ Shaw prepared to quit Man Utd
Luke Shaw will reportedly look to leave Manchester United in the summer if he is not given the chance to prove himself before the end of the season.
The left-back has been out of favour for most of the season having failed to impress Jose Mourinho since the manager took over last summer.
After being publicly criticised by Mourinho following September’s defeat at Watford, Shaw has made only one other Premier League appearance. The 21-year-old was left on the bench for the FA Cup win at Blackburn and not included in the squad for the midweek Europa League win over St Etienne despite United being 3-0 up from the first leg.
The Guardian reports Shaw is “bemused” at his exile, with Jamie Jackson claiming the defender will look to quit Old Trafford should he not play regularly between now and the end of the season.
Prior to United’s win in France this week, Mourinho spoke about why Shaw was not featuring in his team.
He said: “I am playing with Daley Blind, with Marcos Rojo, with Darmian and all of them are playing the way I like a full-back to play. Luke has to wait for his chance and work better knowing that I give nothing for free.
“When I give something to the players it’s expensive for them, they have to work really hard every day. They have to play well so he has to wait.
“In this moment he is behind the others. Potentially he has many things that I like but potential is one thing and another is on the pitch to express all the qualities that I like a player to express.”
