Arsenal target Karim Benzema has rubbished speculation that he could have left Real Madrid this summer, saying he is happy in the Spanish capital.
Benzema was constantly linked to the Gunners throughout the summer, with Arsene Wenger continually fielding questions over a potential move for the French striker.
Manchester United were also tenatively linked with the forward, but Benzema himself insists any talk of leaving the Santiago Bernabeu was pure speculation.
“There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid,” he told Telefoot. “I’m happy at my current club, it’s the best in the world. I’ll continue to work here and be happy where I am.”
Benzema has also dismissed any potential fitness fears, but admits he lacks match fitness as he recovers from a series of minor injuries.
“It’s been like four months since I played properly,” he added. “I’ve played a little bit for Madrid, but that’s all. I’m working little by little to be back in shape.”
