Slaven Bilic admits West Ham are feeling confident ahead of Saturday’s clash with out-of-form Premier League champions Chelsea.

The Hammers have been one of the surprise packages this season, winning at Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, and currently sit fourth in the table.

Conversely their London rivals are languishing in 12th having won only three of their opening nine league matches, and were held to a 0-0 draw at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday.

“This is a good time to play Chelsea, but they need to have a few good results,” former Croatia manager Bilic said.

“Chelsea looked sharp against Kiev and I watched the game. I was not happy afterwards because they looked really good as a team.”

The Blues’ season has been somewhat overshadowed by numerous controversies regarding manager Jose Mourinho – with former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann suggesting the Portuguese is “begging for the sack”.

However Bilic believes his opposite number is still the best in the business.

“It is a big challenge for us and a big test. They are the champions and he is the best manager around. I am looking forward to it,” the 47-year-old added.

“I know Mourinho’s team are always hungry and no-one expected them to be where they are now. Sometimes that happens in football.

“I have watched all their games. If there was something major wrong he would be the first to change it. I see them finishing in top four.”
