Caballero to choose between Chelsea and Newcastle

Newcastle could hijack Chelsea’s move for former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

The Argentinian stopper left the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season when his contract expired, and Chelsea appeared all set to complete the free signing of the 35-year-old to provide back up for Thibaut Courtois.

But Newcastle have also registered an interest as Rafael Benitez attempts to add some depth and experience to his goalkeeping ranks.

Caballero’s agent suggested the goalkeeper has a straight choice between the champions and the recently-promoted Magpies.

“We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England,” Adrian Faija told goal.com

“Newcastle is cold but pretty and the beaches in Brighton are beautiful as well and easily accessible from London.”
