Emre Can has fluttered his eyelashes at “great coach” Jurgen Klopp, while he has defended Brendan Rodgers.

Former Dortmund boss Klopp is the favourite to usurp Rodgers and could sign a three-year deal at Anfield soon, according to reports on Tuesday.

Speaking before Rodgers was ousted on Sunday, midfielder (defender?) Can has praised his fellow countryman Klopp. Speaking to German newspaper Die Welt, he said: “Jurgen Klopp is certainly a great coach. I think he has demonstrated in Dortmund that he can work at any team in the world.”

Can also moved to defend the record of Rodgers, who was sacked at the weekend with Liverpool down in 10th in the Premier League table.

“We had a dip in form at Liverpool for a few games, which has cost us,” Can said.

“Although the blame’s been put mainly on coach Rodgers but, at the end of the day, we players have to be responsible for the situation at Liverpool.

“Rodgers has done good work at Liverpool – always.”
